What percentage does the total of these lengthe bear to the total accommo- dation at the port ?

Bombay.

(a) The depth of 28 ft. (L.W.O.S.T) is found for a length of 3,000 ft. at the east wall and 770 ft. at the west wall of mole at the Alexandra Dotk

(8) The water aves of the Alex. andra Dock is 49-52 acres, and the length of quays 10,000 ft.

The total accommodation at the Fort amounts to 27,770 ft. of quay space for steamers.

(b) in the case of en- closed docks-

(1) admitted direct to or (2) admitted through

the entrance look of

any important dock or docks, H.W.O.N.T.?

There are no wharves or en-

closed docks.

The dimensions of the ships which can lie in the inner basin are only limited by the depth of water available. (See answer to question 4.)

(a) At the east harbour wall vessels of any length or beam could be berthed, but the draught is limited to 26 ft. 6 ine. (L.W.0.5.T.), allowing 1 ft. 6 ins. under the vessel's bottom.

(b) (1) Vessels of any length may be admitted to the Alexandra Dock with all | gates open. but at H.W.O.N.T. the beam is limited to 99 ft. and the draught to 32 ft. 9 ins.. allowing 1 ft. 6 ins. under the vessel's bottom.

The width of the entrance is

100 ft.

(2) If the vessels are locked in at H.W.O.N.T.. the dimensions are limited us follows:--

Ft. Ins. Length (approximate) 720-0 Loaded draught Beam

The above draught allows 1 ft. 6 ins. under the vessel's bottom at the outer eill, which is 4 ft. lower than the inner sill.

(n) A vessel of 530 ft. in length and of corresponding brain can be berthed aloug- side No. 8 Jetty, where the depth with dredging would be about 27 ft. to 28 ft. at lowest low water, which only occurs in the months of February and March, (b) A vessel of 560 ft. in length and of 78 ft. beam can be admitted direct into the Dock basin, but ordinarily the entrance lock is used, which admits vessels of 510 ft. in length, 58 ft. Ġ ins. Leam, and 27 ft. draught.

In addition to the reconstruction of the main wharves, a tidal basin or wet dock has been constructed 24 acres in extent, with a depth of 30 ft. (L.W.O.S.T.) which provides a further 3,800 ft. of berthing accommodation.
